Now what do I mean by magic?

As a child, and even as an adult, I wanted magic to be real. Something I could use to reach out and change the world around me.

Sometimes I wished I could be something different–usually a large black panther. Or sometimes a horse. I know. I’m weird.

But is there anything which could be considered magic?

It all depends on what you mean.

There are healing modalities which some consider magic, such as the various energy healing systems, including Reiki.

There is the belief in Qi, which is used in martial arts and in the energy healing modalities. We talk about using the life force, connecting with it, and using it to whatever ends we need at the time.

Is it magic?

Or is it it simply a science we don’t understand yet?

What about mental telepathy? I know people who swear it’s real and I’ve seen them demonstrate it.

But is it magic?

Something I find magical is the creation of life. It seems impossible for something so tiny as the sperm and ovum to come together and bring forth a living, breathing being. Especially something as complex as a human being.

I know, there is all kinds of science to explain the mechanics of birth. Just like I’m sure there will be science to explain how Reiki works, or mental telepathy. But it still seems like magic or a miracle to me.

So do I believe in magic?

Do I believe there are things out there we have yet to grasp and understand?

Yes. I do. And I hope you do too.

Shifters? That is probably a stretch, even though I still think it would be fun, which is why my alter ego, Mellie Miller, wrote the Gambler’s Folly books.

And paranormal abilities? The Esperance Series reveals a world full of people with various abilities beyond the norm, from mental telepathy to telekinesis and remote viewing.

Elemental magic? Who knows? But it sounds like fun, which is why my main character in Master of the Fleet is a weather shaper.
