Imagine, if you will, being a magical being, taken from your homeland in the Middle East centuries ago by the man who commands you. Eventually you end up in the bayous of Louisiana. When he dies, you become your own person again. Now familiar with the area, you choose to stay for a while.
Unfortunately, you like a good drink and a few people know exactly what you are. One of them, a bayou witch, manages to trap you in an old whiskey jug one night and then binds you to the jug for life. No matter what happens to the jug, you are bound to it, even if it’s in pieces at the bottom of the sea.
As things go in life, she dies after closing you up in the jug one night, and nobody knows you’re there. The jug gets passed around all over the south, ending up in an old junk shop in Georgia, where it is bought by an Englishman who owns an apothecary shop.
He doesn’t know you’re in the jug, gets back to London, and about has a heart attack when he opens the old jug and you appear in a rather smelly cloud of smoke.
And this modern world? It runs on some bizarre form of magic, which, while strange, seems pretty useful. Now if you could just get rid of the jug…
