A Quick Note About Emails

As an author, I receive a lot of unsolicited emails from promoters, marketers, and others in those types of fields, pitching their expertise to me, hoping I will pay them for their knowledge.

Most of the time, they are straightforward as to what they would do for me and how I would benefit. And that’s fine. Most of them I simply delete and more on to the next one. I’m not made of money, so I do the best I can with what resources I have available.

A note to anyone considering approaching an author or other creative. Don’t make fun of them or be disrespectful. This will in no way encourage them to use your services, but it may cause them to leave a message for others about your email conduct.

An example in point. As you know, I recently released Lady Calloway. So far sales have been slow. I know I’m not the best promoting my own work or doing the marketing, but hiring help is expensive. I do appreciate tips from people in the field. I don’t mind a little criticism if it’s polite and helpful.

But things like this do not encourage me to use your services at all.  “I finally wrote a theocratic dystopia with telepathy. Then I discovered that my telepathy could not help me communicate my author name to Amazon.”

Or this. “You run 3 to 5 miles three times a week. Run your author brand the same distance.” 😅 And yes, they did actually use this emoji in the email.

Or how about this:  “…why you, a woman of resilience and discipline, have not fixed this, for two months, since your book published on March 1st, 2026, the same year you are still tweaking, still fragmenting, still waiting for magic to do the work that only alignment can do? 🤔

Did they offer any suggestions? No. Any helpful hints? No. Any encouragement whatsoever? No.

Am I going to reach out for their services?

NO!

And where did they get the idea I run 3-5 miles three times a week? I’ve never run 3-5 miles a week in my life. In college, I was a swimmer. I didn’t run. And after the surgery on my feet, I think my podiatrist would have a stroke if I took up running now.

Am I just being sensitive, or is this as rude and disrespectful as I think it is?

I write under two pen names. Mellie Miller and Sultonna Nadine. Mellie writes the books in my two series. Sultonna writes the stand alones. She has a little more latitude in what she writes, such as Lady Calloway and Whiskey Jug Genie. Two different types of book, both stand alones, neither of which would work in either series.

If you have followed this blog for very long at all, you will know this already. I usually try to cross-reference the two names so people can check out the other set of work. Each name has its own Amazon and Goodreads page. Both names are on Facebook, with a page of their own. But the are referenced again on Meleigh’s Creations page.

So where can you find us:\

Mellie Miller at Amazon or Goodreads.

Or you can find Sultonna Nadine at Amazon or Goodreads

Want to check out the books from Mellie Miller? Go on over to her blog!

People, be kind. If you have a helpful hint or suggestion, wonderful. But if all you’re going to do is poke fun at someone doing the best they can, go elsewhere. I can give you a few suggestions… Many of us are struggling on limited budgets. We don’t have hundreds or thousands of dollars to pay you for your help. And being disrespectful and jeering at us isn’t going to get you that fee you were hoping for.

Sorry if I’m ranting this week. I don’t mind emails. In fact, if you want to send emails, feel free.

It’s the weekend and we’re finally getting a little rain. Maybe the garden will perk up a little.

You know how it goes some weeks, but I’m hanging in there.

And remember, (I’m trying to…)

Always Look For the Magic…
